What is KoolIM?
KoolIM is a web application that allows you to stay in touch with your friends over their favorite instant messengers almost anywhere. You only need a web browser (e.g. Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera). With KoolIM there is no need to have multiple chat programs. Just go to our website, log into any or many of your instant messaging accounts and get ready to chat with your buddies!

Do I need to download or install any software to use KoolIM?
There is no need to download and install any additional software or plug-ins into your computer to use KoolIM Web Instant Messenger. Any recent graphical browser will work (e.g. Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera).

How do I use KoolIM?
Currently you can use KoolIM to talk with friends on MSN, Yahoo, AIM, ICQ, Google Talk and many other popular networks. Just follow these instructions:
  1. Go to our website,
  2. enter the log-in information for your messenger of choice,
  3. click on the Sign Into Accounts button and enjoy!

Can I use two or more messenger accounts at the same time?
Yes, you can simultaneously log into many messenger accounts. KoolIM will conveniently arrange your conversations, and you can always rearrange the windows to better suit your taste.

How do I add a buddy to my contact list?
Once you are logged into the corresponding account, follow the next steps:
  1. If necessary, open your contact list,
  2. right click on the line containing the name of the account,
  3. a pop-up menu will be displayed; click on the Add Buddy option,
  4. a window will open; enter your buddy's user name and click OK.
The buddy will receive a notification and he or she will be able to add you to their list. Note that some notwerks might require your buddy to accept your request; in this case, it might take some time for them to appear on your contact list.

How do I remove a buddy from my contact list?
Once you are logged into the corresponding account, follow the next steps:
  1. If necessary, open your contact list,
  2. right click on the line containing the buddy that you want to delete,
  3. a pop-up menu will be displayed; click on the Remove Buddy option,
  4. click on OK to have the buddy removed.
The buddy will receive a notification and he or she will be able to add you to their list. Note that some notwerks might require your buddy to accept your request; in this case, it might take some time for them to appear on your contact list.

Why do I only see online buddies in the contact list? Where are the rest?
My contact list is too crowded, how do I hide the people who are offline?
You can turn off the display of offline buddies by clicking on the Online icon located on top of the contact list. Conversely, if you want to see the list of all your buddies, click on the Manage icon.

How do I block a buddy?
How do I unblock a buddy?
Once you are logged into the corresponding account, follow the next steps:
  1. If necessary, open your contact list,
  2. right click on the line containing the buddy that you want to block,
  3. a pop-up menu will be displayed; click on the Block Buddy option,
  4. click on OK to have the buddy blocked.
Conversely, to unblock a buddy, follow the steps above selecting Unblock Buddy instead. You might need to open the manage tab to find a blocked buddy. See this question for more details.

What instant messaging networks can be used with KoolIM?
KoolIM works with GoogleTalk, AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu and X-Fire on the consumer side. It also works with Sametime, Simple, SIP, LCS, and QQ on the enterprise side. In addition users have access to content channels such as weather forecast, news feeds and more.

How do I change my presence status?
Once you are logged into the corresponding account, follow the next steps:
  1. If necessary, open your contact list,
  2. right click on the line containing the buddy that you want to block,
  3. a pop-up menu will be displayed; click on the Status option,
  4. choose and click your status from the list provided. This change will take effect immediately.

Can I sort my contact list in alphabetical order?
Yes, you can sort the contact list in ascending and descending alphabetical order. Right click on the line containing the corresponding account and select Sort contact list. Make your preferred choice. This change will take effect immediately.

Is there a way to turn off the sound?
Of course, and you don't need to unplug your speakers! Please click on the Settings button. A window will pop-up, and you should disable the Enable sounds option and click OK to dismiss the dialogue.

I want to use the pop-up version of KoolIM, but it won't open after I sign in.
Nowadays it is common to have a pop-up blocker installed on your browser, which may prevent the pop-up version of KoolIM from opening. You have the option to use the embedded version or to configure the pop-up blocker to allow KoolIM to open pop-ups.
